People Celebrate Johnny Depp Winning Defamation Trial But Their Hate Toward Amber Heard Is More Toxic Than Ever
The verdict of the high-profile defamation case fought by Johnny Depp and Amber Heard in court is out. The jury ruled that Depp and Heard both were defamed but it has awarded Depp $15 million in damages while Heard was awarded $2 million. Johnny Depp shared a heartfelt note on his social media that six years after these false and criminal allegations were levied against him, the jury gave him his ‘life’ back whereas Amber wrote in her social media post that she is ‘sad’ that she lost the case.
As soon as the verdict was announced, people thronged Twitter to congratulate Johnny Depp on his win and #HeDidIt and #TruthWins and #JusticeForJohnnyDepp began trending on Twitter. His fans and supporters from all across the globe have expressed their happiness for Johnny, who finally got justice in this six-week-long trial. However, what stands out starkly is just how ugly a turn the mocking of Amber Heard has gotten.
Twitter Congratulates Johnny Depp
One of the Twitter users wrote, “Men TOO, can be sexually, domestically and emotionally abused. Women don’t get to play the abuse card every. single. day. It’s time for a change”, while another wrote, “The jury and judge and the whole world believed this man. He waited 6 years and he told his truth and his truth is now precedence for.” Another wrote, “Johnny Depp put his career. Pirates 6. Fantastic Beasts 3. EVERYTHING on the line. It took YEARS too but he WON. He PROVED that #Mentoo can be domestic abuse survivors.” One of them also wrote in response to Amber Heard’s tweet that they believe the victims but they did not believe her. While another went on to respond to her tweet by saying, “You do have a right to lie freely and openly, and the jury had a duty to reach the verdict they did. I’m glad you lost this case.”
#BelieveAllWomen I'm sorry what the actual fuck. Our society needs to grow the F up and look on both sides. Men TOO, can be sexually, domestically and emotionally abused. Women don't get to play the abuse card every. single. day. It's time for a change.#hedidit #JohnnyDepp

The Heard-Depp judgement is making a lot of male survivors of domestic violence (finally) feel seen.
The judgement is also making a lot of women (and people of other genders) survivors of DV feel (even more) scared to ever speak up.Both things can be true at the same time.

How to make sense of the Johnny Depp, Amber Heard trial? By reminding ourselves that yes, men can and are often victims of violence, and that does not underwrite the fact that overwhelmingly systems and institutions are still very skewed against women and gender minorities
