Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan is currently gearing up for his upcoming film called Hain Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, featuring Pooja Hegde and Mrunal Thakur. And ahead of its release, the film is already facing backlash after many slammed Mouni Roy (40) for playing the Dhawan (39)’s mother in the plot. She has since found herself in the centre of multiple debates about Bollywood’s bad representation of women on the big screen.
About Mouni Roy, Varun Dhawan In Hain Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai
Reportedly, Mouni Roy has agreed to play the role of Varun Dhawan’s character in the comedy film directed by David Dhawan. This comes after many pointed out that she was only one year older than the actor, and that it was absurd for her to play her mother with such a small age gap. The internet questioned this action and called it a “miscast,” calling the makers out for pushing women into “older” roles while their male counterparts still played “heroes” in their 60s. It is important to note that neither Mouni nor Varun has yet made any public statements on the controversy as of now, and even the director David Dhawan has not yet commented on the same.
They slammed David and Varun for pushing their “Dated” brain-rotting content years after its expiry date and expected people to watch this problematic casting with a laugh. Many made fun of the fact that a 40-year-old actress would play the mother to a 39-year-old actor. This is not the first time that Bollywood has become the centre of controversy. The criticism about makers pushing actresses to play older roles after a certain age has become a tradition, and is still in their minds in 2026. It is important to call out such absurd acts of filmmakers who give in to the fake fantasies of the male audience.
