Ladies, let’s talk about the elephant in the room – or rather, the elephant on our hips, thighs, and every other damn body part. For far too long, we’ve been told that we need to fit into a certain mould when it comes to our size and shape. From airbrushed magazine covers to Instagram filters, society has been shoving unrealistic beauty standards down our throats, and frankly, we’re sick of it. And so is Huma Qureshi, as she speaks her heart open about the misogynistic standards being put up for women.
The Gangs of Wassepur actor Huma Qureshi, recently graced an event for International Women’s Day, hosted by The National Commission for Women and Netflix. During her conversations with the media, Huma opened up about her early days in the film industry, where she faced harsh criticism about her body. Huma Qureshi didn’t just stop at breaking down her own experiences of body shaming – she went on to challenge the whole darn system! During her conversation at the Women’s Day event by The National Commission for Women and Netflix, Huma spoke out against the societal pressure on women to conform to narrow beauty standards. She highlighted how women are constantly made to feel like they need to look a certain way in order to be accepted and successful. But let’s be real, who made these rules anyway?
She posed a serious question that really hit home: What about those women who don’t fit into this mold? Are they not supposed to feel beautiful, empowered, seen or represented? Her words reminded us all that true beauty comes in all shapes, sizes, and colors. At some point or another, this question has crossed the minds of many of us. It’s a feeling that many women have experienced at some point in their lives – feeling like they don’t measure up to society’s unrealistic beauty standards.
