After the 2022 film Faraaz, yet another project of his based on true events, Mehta is back with back yet another scandalous project titled Scoop. The trailer of Scoop was dropped on May 15, and it stars Karishma Tanna, Harman Baweja, Prosenjit Chatterjee, and others in prominent roles! But what has people talking is if Scoop is based on true events or not, and here are all the deets about it!
The trailer of Scoop tells the story of a crime reporter, Jagruti Pathak, who gets embroiled in a case involving Don Chhota Rajan. She gets an interview with him, and soon after, her colleague is shot dead by Rajan’s men. This leaves everyone including the police and media suspecting Jagruti in the case and that she instigated the murder. She is arrested and imprisoned in the Byculla jail.
Now, for those who are wondering if Scoop is based on real-life events, the answer is yes, it is. Scoop is based on the book titled Behind Bars in Byculla penned by the real journalist Jigna Vora. The books shed light on how the female prisoners are treated in the Byculla jail, while parts of it also talk about the case.

As per reports, Jigna Vora was arrested in 2011 in the murder of her colleague and fellow crime journalist Jyotirmoy Dey. Dey was shot dead by Chhota Rajan’s men and the blame came on Jigna as it is shown in the trailer that she was the last one who interviewed the crime lord. After spending six years in jail, Jigna Vora was released in 2017.
