Hansal Mehta Says Kangana Ranaut Is A Great Actress But Working With Her Was A “Massive Mistake”

Filmmaker Hansal Mehta discussed Kangana Ranaut and his experiences working with the actress in a recent interview. Hansal collaborated with Kangana on her 2017 film Simran. Hansal talked about her and said despite her status as a big celebrity, working with her was a “massive mistake”. 

Simran was partially based on the real-life incident of Sandeep Kaur, who stole banks after losing money in gambling. Hansal had previously stated his intention to disown the 2017 picture. Apurva Asrani, Simran’s writer, said in interviews that Kangana had assumed the role of de facto director of the film when Hansal dropped out. She had even referred to him as “spineless” and a “coward.”

When questioned if Kangana took over Simran’s edit during a recent interview with Mashable India, Hansal responded by saying that she (Kangana) did not take over the edit but there was nothing to take over in the edit. He added that they simply had the footage which had been shot. He praised Kangana as an actress saying that she is a really talented and really wonderful performer. Hansal however believes that she has confined herself by producing films about herself. He added that one doesn’t have to transform all of the characters into themselves to believe who they want to be.

Hansal then mentioned Kangana’s Dhaakad song ‘She’s On Fire’, saying that it is a song where she is talking about herself. He added that she put the song in the movie because these are things she wants for herself. Hansal went on to clarify that it is not his place to judge the decisions she makes and that Kangana is still a big star and a great actor. However, they didn’t get along while Hansal was working with Kangana which was a “massive mistake”.
