‘Gumraah’ Trailer: Aditya Roy Kapur Is Double Trouble, Mrunal Thakur Is A By-The-Book Cop On His Case

The humshakal AKA the doppelganger trope in books, films and movies feels far-fetched but if executed right, it can present a mind-blowing plot. We have seen many actors and actresses in Bollywood playing dual roles in films and looks like we have another to add to that list! The upcoming murder mystery Gumraah is based on a similar plot and it stars  Mrunal Thakur, Aditya Roy Kapur, Ronit Roy and others in the lead. It is helmed by Vardhan Ketkar and it is his debut directorial. The trailer of Gumraah was dropped today, and it looks the audience will have to prepare for double trouble!

The trailer starts with a man in a yellow raincoat murdering a person. Mrunal Thakur is on the case, and Ronit Roy is her superior. After a much frustrating dead end, cops find a lead that confirms that Aditya Roy Kapur was the hooded man who committed the murder. Well, if you think the mystery is solved, you are wrong, my friend! But no! Enters the judwaa of Aditya Roy Kapur who baffles the cops as well. Now, there is much confusion as to who has done the murder, and who is impersonating whom?

Aditya Roy Kapur has played two characters who, obviously, are poles apart but it took me a while to see the differences between them. One looks like a polished man who works in corporate while another looks like a galli ka gunda who is well-read about the law. Aditya speaks two languages when he’s in the skin of these two characters. The Gumraah trailer did not give much knowledge about Mrunal Thalur’s character other than the fact that she is a rule-follower. Ronit Roy looks like he is the jump-the-gun kind of a boss who does not want to think left and right before taking a decision.

A murder has taken place, and there are two suspects who are lookalikes. Both could have done the murder and both could be innocent, too. So, you will rush to theatres on April 7, 2023, to find out who is misleading whom in Gumraah!
