Did Four Hands, Two Sonatas Disappoint Viewers With Its Ending?
The finale sees Kang Bi-oh finally take responsibility for the dark actions linked to his family. He confesses the truth, steps away from his career and eventually returns to the piano for one last performance with Choi Jeong-yo.
Jeong-yo, despite everything that happened between them, chooses to forgive Bi-oh. The story then jumps ahead three years. Bi-oh discovers Jeong-yo through a video online and goes looking for him. Their paths cross again in a cathedral in the Czech Republic, where Jeong-yo is now leading a choir.

On paper, it is a hopeful ending. The two characters survive everything that happened and find their way back to each other. But for a section of the audience, that was not quite enough.
The reason is the chemistry between Song Kang and Lee Jun-young. From the beginning, viewers noticed the emotional intensity between their characters. This also led to discussions about whether the drama was deliberately teasing a romantic relationship between them.
Note: The queerbaiting debate had already started before the show premiered. It eventually became less intense as the story moved forward, but the leads’ chemistry kept the conversation alive. By the time the finale arrived, some viewers were expecting the relationship to become romantic.
Those expectations became even stronger after screenwriter Shin Yi-won revealed that the early version of the script had been written as a BL story before being reworked into a bromance for tvN.

As a result, some viewers feel that the finale played it too safe. However, others are perfectly happy with the conclusion.
