Global entertainment entrepreneur Karnesh Ssharma has announced the launch of the world’s only female-centric original content streaming platform Clean OTT. The streaming platform is scheduled to be launched in the first quarter of 2023. Clean OTT will set a new benchmark in the Indian entertainment industry with a content streaming platform that will see female actors, directors and producers at the forefront. Not only will this platform break global gender stereotypes but it also aims at moving away from the male gaze and creating a sustainable platform for women in the entertainment industry to further their careers.
Clean OTT will have content including international and regional projects like films, web series and docu-series. It will have original content curated and produced by Clean as well as pre-selected projects that meet the Clean OTT framework by producers from India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal. It will feature work from an experienced team of directors, scriptwriters, actors, and producers associated with Clean Slate Filmz and also provide opportunities to new talent.
Karnesh Ssharma is Anushka Sharma’s brother and the co-founder of Clean Slate Filmz known for Netflix original Bulbul and Amazon Prime Video’s Paatal Lok. Karnesh Ssharma’s Clean OTT will be driven by an annual subscription SVOD model and will first launch in India before hitting the international market such as the UK, US, Canada and UAE which was the Indian diaspora population but the subscription price has not yet been revealed. Speaking about the same in a conversation with Variety, Karensh Ssharma said that Clean OTT aims to ‘leave behind any preconceived notions or prejudices over what is deemed ‘traditional’ in Indian film from a gender perspective’. He also shared that the streaming platform will focus on ‘gripping, quality storylines’ and give women a platform for storytelling and allow them to share their perspectives.
The founder of Clean OTT, Karnesh Ssharma said that he consciously believes that he has a responsibility to produce and promote stories that don’t endorse bias. He added, ” For centuries patriarchy has governed storytelling, and as a man, I have always felt men play an equal part in shifting the narrative, conversation, and power shifts.” He further shared that the voices of women teach us a new perspective. “It’s stereotypical when I hear people say women’s stories are just about oppression or fall into the romantic comedy genre. Female first content is in fact extremely exciting and eclectic,” added the Clean OTT founder.
