Explained: Why Dhruv Rathee’s Video About Hindu Deities Is Blocked In India But Still Available Elsewhere?

In a recent turn of events, a video by YouTuber Dhruv Rathee on Hindu deities has been withheld in India, as per Google LLC. It was allegedly defamatory and hurt religious feelings. It is important to note that the clip has been withheld just in India and not globally. Google’s counsel told Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma that this action has not yet been taken globally since the problem of passing a global injunction is pending consideration before a diverse bench. About Dhruv Rathee’s Video

The removal of this video by Dhruv Rathee on March 21 was directed by the Grievance Appellate Committee. This submission by Google came on Tuesday after lawyer Amita Sachdeva pleaded in court asking directions for the removal of the same. In her statement, she said that the committee had asked for the video’s removal on July 15, but Google failed to abide by this direction. She further spoke about how the video had harmful content and also called it “defamatory” after Rathee allegedly said that Hindu gods ate meat and consumed alcohol. His petition will be heard on September 3.

The committee then directed the government and gave it 15 days to decide about the petition seeking the removal of Dhruv’s video. Sachdeva also filed a complaint against the YouTuber in a Delhi court seeking registration of the case. She claimed that the video insulted Sanatan Dharma, spread anti-Hindu sentiments, distorted Hindu scriptures, and caused religious disharmony, all of which required immediate attention.
