Explained: From Win Metawin To Rachanun Mahawan, Thai Stars Apologise For Wrongly Using Help Signal

Thai celebrities enjoy a huge fanbase, and every action they take quickly becomes a trending topic on social media. Recently, several Thai stars faced strong criticism for wrongly using the Signal for Help hand gesture. This led to widespread backlash online, forcing many of them to issue public apologies. The incident has sparked important discussions about being responsible. Read on to know more about it.

The issue started when actor Force Jiratchapong Srisang shared an Instagram Stories video. In the clip, he and fellow actor Win Metawin could be seen making the Signal for Help gesture while working out at a gym. A social media user later reposted the video on X and pointed out that the gesture should not be treated lightly or used as a fun trend. The Signal for Help was created to assist women facing domestic violence so they could silently call for help without speaking.

Soon after, people began sharing more photos and videos of other Thai celebrities using the same hand sign while greeting fans or during random moments. This added fuel to the criticism. Many felt that turning a serious safety signal into a casual pose reduced its importance and could put real victims at risk.

Win Metawin later addressed the matter. He explained that he had used the gesture without knowing its actual purpose. The actor thought it was just a general way to ask for help in any situation. Win Metawin admitted his mistake and promised to be more careful with hand gestures and symbols in the future.
