‘The Male Feminist’: Zareen Khan Wants To Question Knowledge Of Islamic Professors Who Called Her Nasty Names For Doing ‘Hate Story 3’
Logon ka kaam hai kehna!

I remember when the Hate Story movies were released, it caused a huge uproar in the country because it was one of the first erotic movies to be released. And particularly, it was Hate Story 3 that made a lot of noise. People were shocked at the erotic scenes in the songs of the film and moreover, they went ahead to slam Zareen Khan for showing ‘too much’ skin in the film. In the recent episode of The Male Feminist, Zareen talks with host Siddhaarth Aalambayan about the backlash she received for doing those scenes. She expressed shock when people from the industry started calling her names, too.
Zareen Khan said that she was confused about the backlash she received for the skin show in Hate Story 3. She said, “People had some problem with that because now if you turn on your TV, there is so much more happening. I don’t know why it was a problem then.” Zareen said the backlash from the audience was still understandable but she was particularly shocked when people from the industry itself said things like ‘she is shedding clothes because she cannot act!’

The 35-year-old actress also spoke about how she was criticised for doing the movie on the religious front. She said, “I am a Muslim, and I have also read the Quran Sharif. I know my religion. Islam teaches us not to point fingers at anybody else.” Zareen further said that she would like to question the knowledge of all those Islamic professors who were calling her the ‘nastiest’ names.
It shows how concerned our society is with what women do. The policing that goes women are subjected to, especially those who follow Islam is severe. I am sure that no one batted an eye at Karan Singh Grover who was a part of those erotic songs in the film. So, it is quite obvious people choose to target Zareen Khan thinking she was a ‘soft target’ for such comments.

Also, what about an ‘erotic thriller’ film do people not understand? It is an erotic film. There will be nudity and eroticism in it. If the audience had a problem with it, why did they go watch the film? And if there had been no nudity in the movie, people would unabashedly come out of the theatres and say that ‘arey movie mei toh kuch that hi nahi!’ The double standards of the people are real!
