Exclusive: Sufi Motiwala Defends Alia Bhatt Amid Cannes Hate: “She Signed Up For…”

Actor Alia Bhatt became the centre of a lot of hate and criticism after her recent appearance at the Cannes Film Festival 2026. From her walk to her outfits to her interviews, the internet criticised every step of hers, and it was very unkind. And during an exclusive chat with Hauterrfly, content creator Sufi Motiwala expressed his disappointment on the same. Read to know more about what he said here.

Sufi Motiwala On Alia Bhatt At Cannes Film Festival 2026

During the exclusive chat, Sufi Motiwala said, “I was empathetic because at the end of the day, Alia (Bhatt) was just there to do her job. She was there because it was a part of something that she signed up for, so I feel like people give her a lot of slack for no reason. I mean, sure, you like her, or you don’t like her, you’re entitled to your opinion, but unnecessarily coming at someone and saying, “Oh, nobody cares about you,” is not right. Girl, if nobody cared about her, you would be talking about her. So, it’s highly dumb to question someone’s iconisity just because you don’t like them. People need to be more rational with their hate.” We agree!

During the same chat, Sufi Motiwala also opened up about the much-asked question about whether influencers are treated differently at the Cannes Film Festival than actors. He said, “No, I think people make such an assumption because obviously everybody’s sent differently. But it’s the same as if you attend an Indian event; if you’re an influencer at an event and if a celebrity is also there, you will be treated in a different manner. It’s not about respect or fame, it’s about being a L’Oreal ambassador; you’ll be given more respect because the brand needs to get that content out of you.”
