Emraan Hashmi On Playing Villain
Emraan Hashmi will soon be seen in the Disney Plus Hotstar show on Showtime. The actor spoke to Hauterrfly on many aspects of the show and his character in the series. During the conversation, he also sheds light on whether or not he is going into his villain era by choosing to play the negative characters. The actor first pointed out that he wouldn’t call it a villain era as he had done such a role in only Tiger 3. However, Emraan Hashmi further spoke about it and said, “I think it has become a perception that I am picking those kinds of roles but it is not.” Elaborating on his films where he played an antagonist, Hashmi said, “I played one in Tiger 3, then there’s another South Indian film which is Telugu, in that I am playing a bad guy. Now for some reason, people think that it has just become a thing right now. I think people just like to compartmentalize that way and label things but It’s just, that I am an actor and I want to do variety of roles. Yes, I have a thing for grey characters and that has been since my first film till now, and they have always been heroic characters in their way and a redemption story attached to it. Saying yes to Tiger 3 for the role of an antagonist was because it was a big franchise and I wanted to give it a try. I pick and choose my scripts but it is once run by my family, but it’s not about doing romantic films and then choosing darker tone characters, at the end, it’s all about what has been offered and it also comes down to the script.”
