‘Eternally Confused And Eager For Love’ Trailer Just Held Up A Mirror To My Love Life. That Talking Wizard Is Hilarious!

Since I am a creative with trust issues, there are few people I’d trust to tell my life story better than me. And I guess filmmaker siblings Zoya Akhtar and Farhan Akhtar are two people who do get on the list. Their next project as producers is a Netflix series called Eternally Confused And Eager For Love created, written and directed by Rahul Nair, and it is based on something that most of us adults are struggling with: our dating lives. Because modern dating is quite the torture chamber that tickles you all the way to hell. The series dropped its official trailer today, and it stars Vihaan Samat, Rahul Bose, Suchitra Pillai, Dalai, Ankur Rathee, and Jim Sarbh as Wiz, quite literally a talking wizard figurine who is downright hilarious as an imaginary friend/very real troublemaker in the protagonist Ray’s life!

The series is about Ray, a young adult who’s eager for love, or wants just sex? Even he doesn’t know! He’s still trying to figure it out, as he navigates the complicated and often unforgiving world of modern dating. And clearly, his parents are not helping by trying too hard to help! But here’s the thing, Ray has a trusty sidekick, an imaginary wizard friend called Wiz, who is, to simplify this a bit, that inner voice we all have conversations with when we’re not sure about something. As we all know though, that doesn’t always pan out well, especially for someone who listens to that self-doubting voice every single day.

The trailer definitely had me hitting the Relate Max button, hard! I am not exactly a young adult at 30 now, but I do feel that dating is quite the task, especially when you know too much of what you want, just as when you don’t know what you want! Vihaan Samat totally looks the part of a confused guy, and I thought Rahul Bose as that father who is always disappointed at his son and Suchitra Pillar as the mother trying to help her son is going to be a hilarious dynamic. I am already looking forward to Jim Sarbh as the voice of Wiz, whose additional dialogue BTW is written by comic Azeem Banatwalla!

The series is reportedly based on the director, Rahul Nair’s, personal experiences of living through similar situations. He said, “The series is certainly a personal story – returning from college in America, I found the dating scene in Mumbai to be much like every other urban metropolis, with some unique Indian elements of course (namely, how deeply involved parents can get in your love life!). With numerous dating apps, a vibrant nightlife, and opportunities at every corner, I found that sometimes it can all become… a little too much.”

I echo that sentiment, and that’s why I am looking forward to this one!

Eternally Confused and Eager for Love will stream on Netflix on March 18, 2022.
