Director Abhishek Kapoor recently shed light on a legal battle he faced with actor Sara Ali Khan during the filming of their collaborative project, Kedarnath, in 2018. Kapoor, who introduced Sara to the silver screen through this film, shared the ironic circumstances of fighting legal battles in court while simultaneously capturing pivotal scenes for the movie. Kedarnath found itself entangled in a legal dispute between Kapoor and production house KriArj Entertainment, leading to the latter withdrawing from the project. This clash disrupted Sara Ali Khan’s shooting schedule as she had reportedly allocated her free dates to Karan Johar-backed Simmba, directed by Rohit Shetty and co-starring Ranveer Singh.

In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Kapoor delved into the challenges of movie-making, emphasizing the need to protect the film from various adversities, even those posed by individuals meant to support it. Kapoor recounted an incident where Sara’s dates were mistakenly assigned to another project, creating an unacceptable situation for the director. Amidst these challenges, Kapoor navigated financial issues with fraudulent individuals. Despite the legal battles, the filmmaker and Sara found themselves shooting crucial scenes together, highlighting the complex nature of their dual roles as adversaries in court and collaborators on set.

Kedarnath was released on December 7, just days before Simmba hit the screens later that month. Reports circulated that Sara Ali Khan’s mother, Amrita Singh, favoured Simmba as her daughter’s debut film. However, when questioned about this, Abhishek Kapoor stated that didn’t speak much to Sara Ali Khan’s mother. Kedarnath also featured Sushant Singh Rajput in lead role.
