Delhi HC Protects Tabu’s Personality Rights!

The Delhi HC has issued an ex parte interim injunction for the protection of Tabu’s identity rights. In this, the court has restricted unauthorised use of the actor’s pictures, including anything that is created using AI, deepfake or other technologies. The hearing was presided over by Justice Jyoti Singh, who has also asked for the removal of all the URLs carrying unauthorised content on Tabu, and the order has been passed for various platforms like Google, Meta, X and other social media mediums. The court also acknowledged Tabu’s stage name ‘Tabu’, her voice, personality and everything that makes her distinct and known in public. With this, the bench stressed the importance of granting interim protection on her rights and the severe consequences if it was not done.

This order comes after Tabu moved to the High Court for allowing protection of her identity rights. In her plea, the action mentioned the authorised use of identity for commercial use, and this includes event-booking accounts, unauthorised merchandise, baseless statements and AI-generated obscene images, and others, as per a report by Hindustan Times.
