Deepika Padukone Is The Only Indian Actress On The Most Beautiful Woman List. But Why Is There Such A List In The First Place?

The beauty standards for women set by society are quite toxic and almost unachievable. Women are expected to look a certain way to be qualified enough to be described as ‘beautiful’. Even though the world is becoming a little bit better place for women but it is yet not inclusive of all beauty types. Why is it difficult to believe that all women, irrespective of their skin colour, size, and body type are beautiful? On top of that, when women see picture-perfect actresses on screen, it adds more to the stereotype of an acceptable beauty standard. And a UK-based plastic surgeon, Dr Julian de Silva, has decided to add fuel to this already raging fire about acceptable beauty norms by issuing a list of the actresses, who according to him, are the most beautiful ones in the world.

Dr Julian de Silva is a celebrity plastic surgeon who hit headlines with his unwarranted list of who he deems the most beautiful woman in the world. As per reports, de Siva has named the British actress Jodie Comer as the most beautiful on his list. Bella Hadid and Zendaya follow Comer in this list. Deepika Padukone also has grabbed the spot in this year’s list issued by the doctor.

Also, these actresses have not been named randomly. Dr de Silva uses the Golden Ratio of Beauty, which is also called Phi, to mathematically determine the facial features ratio of these actresses. The physical perfection of the facial features is determined by applying a mathematical formula. 1.618 is the set ratio and the closer the numbers are to this ratio, the more perfect the face is!

Jodie Comer scores the highest score of 98.7 per cent, followed by Zendaya and Bella Hadid who score 94.37 per cent and 94.35 per cent respectively. Even writing about these percentages made me feel awkward about them. Why can’t every face be beautiful the way it is? Such lists tend to make women insecure about their own flaws who, in turn, tend to go to extreme measures to achieve the “perfect” look.

There was a case a couple of years back when an Iranian woman named Sahar Tabar tried to look like Angelina Jolie and underwent heavy plastic surgery. But it all went south and she ended up looking unreally bad which earned her the name ‘Zombie Angelina Jolie’.

In the process of achieving the desired look, women end up harming themselves more and the damage that is done is irreversible. Such lists should not be released. Period.
