Ever since its release, Fifty Shades of Grey has been under the spotlight, and well it’s for all the right reasons. And now years of its release, actress Dakota Johnson has spilt some beans on the filming and we don’t know how to feel about this. Talking to Vanity Fair, Dakota said filming the “Fifty Shades” movies was “psychotic.”

There definitely is a lot that goes unnoticed while filming a successful trilogy, Johnson peals every layer of the making as she gets candid about the creative differences, she faced with the makers. She explained “I signed up to do a very different version of the film we ended up making.” While Dakota’s character–Anastasia Steele, remained a popular aspect in defining her public image, it was a lot that went behind curating it. Calling the studio, directors and author of the book– E.L. James, a combo platter of problems, Dakota revealed how the latter demanded creative control throughout the film. Contrary to what James might think, she stressed on how there were so many things that wouldn’t work in the movie as compared to the book. Citing an example for which she said, “There were parts of the books that just wouldn’t work in a movie, like the inner monologue, which was at times incredibly cheesy. It wouldn’t work to say out loud.” She says, it was a battle and she still thinks no one would’ve done it.

For anyone playing Anastasia, the right kind of filming environment was important. Talking about this Dakota also revealed how director Sam Taylor-Johnson of the first film, brought a softer perspective, as compared to James Foley, the director of the next parts. She also mentioned that it was interesting to know his view on certain scenes and film them with a man behind the camera. While Dakota mentions about the great energy on the sets, she says there are so many things that she still can not entirely open up about, because it in many ways has the power to affect anyone’s career or reputation. But she covers it all up by admitting that she and Jamie were treated very well.

And well if you think Johnson regrets doing the film, then it’s definitely not the case. Signing up for such a role at 23, was indeed scary, she says. She also mentioned how the creative battle led to the two versions of the same film, with different takes of the same scene being captured for author James and the rest of the team. Putting her feelings into words  she said, “it was like mayhem all the time.”

Moreover, Dakota also reacted to a  rumoured feud between her and co-star Jamie Dornan. And well her answer is pretty interesting and in many ways weird. “I know it’s weird, but he’s like a brother to me,” she says. She added “I love him so, so, so much,” and exclaimed how it was important for them to be a team to be able to do the “weirdest things.”

But overall, Johnson, admits the film turned out to be great for their careers! And we couldn’t agree more.
