‘Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga’ Review: Lack of Logic Causes Turbulence, But Yami Gautam Ensures Safe Landing!

Hearing stories of plane hijacks have always freaked me out right from the time I saw the 2016 film, Neerja. The tension in films based on such events is so high that they make me fear flying altogether. But the newly released film Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga left me with mixed feelings about an issue so serious. Starring Yami Gautam Dhar, Sunny Kaushal and Sharad Kelkar in the lead, Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga is a film that could have delivered much more on the plot that was based on stealing diamonds on a hijacked plane. The film is directed by Ajay Singh, and is available for streaming on Netflix.

The Plot of Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga

Yami Gautam AKA Neha Grover is an air hostess who loves her job and has been doing it for so long that she knows how to create loopholes in the boarding and alighting process in a plane. Sunny Kaushal AKA Ankit Sethi is a businessman who deals with diamonds. Neha and Ankit’s love story soars right from the first flight. They fall head over heels in love with each other so fast that there is no room for doubt or even processing things.

Soon, Neha gets pregnant, and her life with Ankit is all rosy until it is not! Ankit has to steal diamonds worth Rs 120 crore while the plane is in flight because those keemti heere will be connected to GPS. So what happens to the diamonds from Al Barkat to Delhi will leave no trace whatsoever! But of course, Ankit cannot do this all on his own, and he will need Neha’s help to steal the same diamonds that India’s Home Minister is getting smuggled for him.

The plan looks all set and very easy, too. But everything goes for a toss when the plane gets hijacked. And now, both Neha and Ankit stand to lose everything they hold dear. But they still try and risk their lives to steal the diamonds.

Needless to say, there are a lot of double crossings happening in Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga. And the reasons for all of that happening are justified. But the execution of it is what does not convince me! There are so many loopholes that make you question how things on this level are functioning so casually. The drinks of the passengers are spiked, the demands of the hijackers make no sense, and the case which is investigated by RAW actually feels very raw and undercooked. The way the climax took place, there should be solid repercussions that those involved should have faced but they all walked away like it was no big deal. As if hijacking planes is the most common thing to do.

The characters of Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga

Yami Gautam suits the role of Neha Grover. She’s confident, and knows what needs to be done. I loved her character arc. From being a naive woman in love, she goes to becoming a badass bitch seeking revenge. Her personality traits undergo major changes when she wants revenge for all that was done wrong to her.

Sunny Kaushal as Ankit Sethi will make you cringe a little because at certain points it felt like he did not mean the dialogues he was saying. For instance, when he asks Neha to retrieve diamonds from business class when the hijackers have put a gun to her head. Sharad Kelkar is a RAW agent who is trying to make sense of all that took place. What did not make sense to me was how easily he stopped getting to te depth of this mess. He had all culprits in front of his eyes. All he had to do was join the dots.

The chemistry between Yami and Sunny was lukewarm. Even though it was a fresh on-screen pairing, I wish Ankit did not try so hard and Neha would not so easily fall for his f-boy charm.

Verdict

Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga felt a little stagnant and it was not as exciting as it should have been. A lot of things will make you question ki what is happening. The plot had potential but I wish there were logical consequences for the mishaps that were shown. You expect drama, anticipation and thrill from heist films which I found to be missing in Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga. Yami Gautam Dhar pulled it off in this one. She saved this flight from crashing and it was interesting to see her character fight back instead of being a damsel in distress.

So, if you are in the mood to watch something over the weekend, go for Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga because you can definitely watch it once. Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga has been released on Netflix.
