BTS Win Legal Battle Against US Songwriter Melissa Mays. Know All About It!

BTS and their agency HYBE have received a favourable update after a US court rejected a lawsuit filed by Melissa Mays. According to Star News, the US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia dismissed Melissa Mays’ revised complaint. She had accused the Korean boy band and their agency of using her unreleased song without permission. However, the case could not move forward due to a lack of supporting evidence. Read on to know more about it.

What Is The Lawsuit About?

Melissa Mays filed the lawsuit on August 25, naming BTS, Big Hit Music, HYBE and HYBE America. She alleged that the group had used her unreleased music without her approval. The court first looked into her claims in September. Judge Leonie Brinkema found that the complaint lacked enough details and gave Melissa another opportunity to provide stronger information.

Later, she submitted a revised complaint on October 8. However, this filing also failed to meet the court’s legal requirements.

US Court Brings The Case To An End

On October 22, the court dismissed the revised complaint, ending the legal proceedings. The decision is a favourable outcome for BTS and the other parties named in the case.

Melissa’s allegations could not be supported with specific evidence showing that BTS had used her work. As a result, the court did not allow the case to move forward. For the group and HYBE, the latest ruling puts an end to this particular legal dispute.
