All About BTS ‘Swim’ Plagiarism Controversy: What Really Happened!

Three songwriters, Steve Cooper, Jon Sandler, and Greylyn Johnson, started a legal case on July 8. They say ‘Swim’ copied a large part of their original demo. After listening many times, they became sure the songs were too similar. The case names HYBE, BTS’s company, and the writers of the hit song. It does not name the BTS members directly.

The songwriters told the court that they sent their demo to different people in March 2025. Some of those people worked on ‘Swim’. They believe their ideas reached the team and got used in the final track.

However, the reactions are a bit different. Fans of the group, aka BTS ARMY found the timing strange and wondered why the songwriters waited so long.

Well, this is not the first time BTS has been embroiled in a plagiarism controversy. Before their song ‘Butter’ came out, some listeners said the starting bass line sounded like Queen’s old hit ‘Another One Bites the Dust’. Queen’s account posted about it online for a short time but later took it down. Later, Big Hit explained that BTS owned all the rights to ‘Butter’ and no plagiarism took place. Just like that, the issue ended any massive trouble.
