Bella Hadid Revealed She Keeps Returning To Abusive Relationships With People

I believe that we all have been a part of toxic relationships. But I feel that people don’t get that toxicity within a relationship does not only have to be limited to romantic relationships. Friends and family (even your parents or siblings) can be toxic. And I believe that most of the time we are so attached to our abusers that we fail to draw boundaries and keep going back to their toxicity, despite what they throw at us. Bella Hadid seems to agree with me here because she recently spoke about why she keeps going back to toxic relationships and her self-awareness is truly refreshing.

In an interview in the Victoria’s Secret‘s ‘VS Voices’ podcast, Bella Hadid spoke about her relationships and her tendency to keep going back to toxic ones. She says that the main reason that she keeps returning back to toxic relationships is that she is unable to maintain boundaries. Isn’t that relatable? Bella says that she kept going back to men and women who were abusive towards her because she was a people pleaser and couldn’t set boundaries. I never thought I would relate Bella Hadid to this extent. “I constantly went back to men – and also, women – that had abused me and that’s where the people pleasing came in,” she reportedly said.

Bella Hadid said that she grew up thinking that her voice went unheard and around a lot of men (be it in family or relationships) who made her feel that her voice was insignificant compared to theirs.

To be fair, I believe that most women (or minorities) growing up felt similar to Bella Hadid. We are conditioned to believe that our opinions and ambitions have no importance and that is far from the truth. However, that conditioning is hard to let go of.
