Badshah Doesn’t Approve Of Songs That “Glorify Objectification Of Women”. Erm, Has He Heard His Own Music?
Bhai thoda zyaada ho gaya!

Finally, we are getting to see films and shows where women characters are no longer written to just be the eye candy in the story. There are more empowering female characters and female-led content being produced in the film industry. However, this change is not really evident in some songs written, especially raps written on women. They are kaafi objectifying and stereotypical in a way. One of India’s popular singers and rappers Badshah recently spoke on the same and said he is against the production of song lyrics that objectify women but is he really the right person to be saying this?

Badshah has produced some very popular songs in her career. Most of his songs and raps are played at parties and weddings, and we all groove to it. However, we cannot deny the fact the lyrics are quite problematic and sexist too! In many of his songs, women are objectified too. But, personally, Badshah does not believe in promoting or supporting such songs and he said this during a recent interview. The singer was also quick to accept that he has taken some creative liberties while writing his songs for entertainment purposes but strongly stands against the glorifying songs that objectify women because he too has women at home.

Well, while his thoughts here are appreciated terming his song lyrics as a creative liberty seems like an easy escape. Songs like ‘She Move It Like’, ‘Genda Phool’, and ‘Garmi’ have lyrics that clearly have some questionable lyrics. Like “Body teri makkhan jaise, khaane mein bas tu makkhan khaaye,” sounds exactly like what Badshah is opinionating against! So it’s still hard to believe that the singer is firm on his stand, and chooses to write better lyrics instead of taking an easy option of objectifying women in her raps.
