7 Iconic Asha Bhosle Songs That Make Our Party Playlists Even Now!

As they say, music is therapy for the soul and it is quite true. For me, at least. Being a 90’s kid, I have always preferred old-school music to the current Bollywood tunes. My playlist is a mix of Kumar Sanu, Udit Narayan, Alka Yagnik and Sukhwinder Singh’s hits. Uff, what songs have they all sung, all are pure gold! But if there was a veteran or yesteryear singer who I absolutely love, adore and respect, and whose songs I will never mind playing through the aux in a car is Asha Bhosle. I became an instant fan of Ashaji when I first heard the song ‘Dum Maaro Dum’. Her vocals blew my mind in this song and there was never going back for me after this.

What is all the more amazing about Asha Bhosle’s voice is that it suits every type of song she croons. Be it romantic, sensual or an upbeat track, if it is sung by Ashaji, it is worth listening to. Today is Asha Tai’s birthday. The legend turned 89 years old and we are forever grateful for her musical contribution over the years. And what better than today to take a trip down memory lane and remember some of the high-tempo songs sung by Asha Tai which make for party songs even today!

‘Dum Maaro Dum’

If you are someone who likes the remix version of this song, you and I can never be friends. This song is from the 1971 movie Hare Rama Hare Krishna and the music for the same is given by RD Burman. You can call this song ahead of its time and you will not be wrong! From the way Ashaji has sung about smoking weed and to everybody in the video literally doing that and making out while being high as a kite, this song is iconic and a perfect party number even today!

‘Nisha Nisha’

From the 1982 film Sanam Teri Kasam, Nisha Nisha never fails to make me tap my feet whenever I hear it. This track was sung by Ashaji and RD Burman sahab. The funky music and the vocals lent by these two legends make this a great song to dance to at a party!

‘Jawani Jaaneman’

This literally my favourite song by Asha Tai. This song from the 1982 film Namak Halal can me break into dance wherever! The rhyming lyrics and disco-type music are exactly what classifies it as a party chartbuster! And of course, how can forget Parveen Babi’s enchanting dance performance?

‘Raat Baaki Baat Baaki’

This track is again from the film Namak Halal and my oh my! Isn’t this a favourite of mine, Again? This is the perfect song to play to unwind and groove to at a party with your gang! Interestingly, apart from Asha Bhosle and Bappi Lahiri, Shashi Kapoor has also lent his voice to this song!

‘Yeh Mera Dil’

The remix starring Kareena Kapoor Khan doesn’t hold a candle against this masterpiece of an original! This song is from the 1978 film Don starring Amitabh Bachchan in the lead. ‘Yeh Mera Dil’ has been made into an immortal track not just because of Ashaji’s vocals but also because of Helen’s sexy cabaret dance.

‘Piya Tu Ab To Aaja’

In this track, you can literally hear and in fact, feel every low and high note Asha Bhosle has sung! She breathed life into this song and it’s the way it is sung that makes want to get up from your seat and just dance to its tune! The song is from the 1971 film Caravan.

‘Duniya Mein Logon Ko Dhoka’

If we are curating a party songs list, then ‘Duniya Mein Logon Ko Dhoka’ is a song we can never forget to add. Belonging to the movie 1972 film Apna Desh, this song sees Rajesh Khanna and Mumtaz showing off some solid moves!
