Fans Call Out Alia Bhatt For Her Racist Dialogue About China In ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ Trailer

Ever since the trailer of Gangubai Kathiawadi was released, I can’t help but keep watching. I must have easily watched it 7 times by now and with every watch, the trailer somehow impacts me even more. However, there was a lot of criticism that Alia Bhatt starrer faced from people on Twitter. Why? Because, well, they think that Alia Bhatt’s dialogue about China is racist and uncalled for.

While the Gangubai Kathiawadi trailer – starring Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn – has received nothing short of a positive response from celebrities and fans alike, there is, however, one line that has started a controversy on Twitter. The Twitterati believes that Alia Bhatt’s dialogue about China was downright racist.

The scene that they are referring to is the one where Alia Bhatt has gone to a doctor who is from North-East of India. In the Gangubai Kathiawadi trailer, she is seen saying, “Pura ka pura China mou mein ghusayega kya?” when the doctor asks her to open her mouth further. This particular dialogue has not sat well with the viewers and they are the ones calling out the Dear Zindagi actor racist.

Honestly, I would have agreed with them if it wasn’t for the fact that the trailer, as well as the movie, has been set in the 1960s when people in India hardly knew what racism meant. For the time period, it is set in, the dialogue fits properly. In fact, I believe that if they wouldn’t have shown this, then the same people would have called them out for being inauthentic. I mean, isn’t this why most of us don’t judge movies that come in the genre of historic drama, period drama, etc.

I genuinely believe that calling out the racist dialogue about china in the Gangubai Kathiawadi trailer is uncalled for and unnecessary.
