There are so many women out there who inspire us with their work, thoughts and personalities. One such great woman is tennis player Sania Mirza, a sportsperson who has taken India’s name to the world rankings. She was recently present at an event celebrating women’s empowerment when she gave out some immensely inspiring words that come from years of experience. She, like every other woman, has many roles to play in her personal life, however, Sania never forgot to maintain her real identity as a sportsperson in between all other responsibilities. She talked at length and gave us all the secrets to becoming what she is today.

In a panel discussion organised by Meta, Sania Mirza spoke on different aspects of her life and career. She was joined by Faye D’Souza, Niharika NM and Karishma Mehta. Faye D’Souza, a renowned journalist asked the tennis player about her ways of maintaining her identity as “Sania Mirza” while also balancing her responsibilities as a mother and wife. To this, the tennis player said that it was a conscious effort that she has taken throughout. Elaborating on the same, Sania Mirza said that being a mother and wife is part of her, and does not define her, but maintaining her individuality as a world-class tennis player gives her identity. Giving an empowering message for all women, the Grand Slam winner said that being someone’s wife or daughter should not be a woman’s sole identity.

Sania Mirza announced her retirement from tennis recently. She played her last tennis match in Hyderabad when she also gave her farewell speech.
