I remember my first few days of college were nothing short of a nightmare. Coming from a home where I was literally escorted everywhere I went, I felt like I’d been thrown into a swamp full of alligators. So much so that I even begged my mum to see me off at the college gate on my first day, and felt shattered when she refused. In hindsight, I’m glad she didn’t comply with my demands because my fears were baseless.
I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one for whom the thought of the first day of college meant major panic attacks. While it can mean freedom for some, the thought of entering a new place and seeing so many new faces is unnerving for others. However, I’m here to tell you that there’s absolutely no reason to dread this new phase in your life.
Here are 5 ways to keep calm and own your first day in college!
While there’s no such thing as being too prepared, it always helps to know more about your new college. Read up as much information as you can find out about its rules and regulations, then speak to alumni and current students you might know to circumvent said rules and regulations! It helps. MAJORLY!
Zara Ripped Jeans
Take mental notes on how college students dress up. Don’t ape them, but certainly keep an eye out for the latest trends and observe what’s trending sartorially on campus. Invest in a few wardrobe essentials like culottes, ripped denims, graphic tees, white sneakers, et al that you can mix and match to work a variety of ensembles.
Start taking care of your skin. Most teenagers tend to have really oily skin. What’s more, this is perhaps the first time you’ll be spending so much time travelling to and from college, and dust and pollution can really mess up your skin. Besides, you will meet so many new people in college during the initial days that the last thing you want is your face getting oily within an hour of getting there! Make sure you keep your skin fresh with an affordable product like Clean & Clear Foaming Facial Wash, which offers long-lasting oil control for up to 8 hours.
Adidas Originals Sneakers
Whatever you do, don’t forget that the right shoes can make or break an outfit. Whether you are a sneaker head or love heels, make sure your footwear is anything but basic!
Don’t let anyone or anything influence who you are or what you do. College is the time to explore and learn more about the person you will become, so let go of your fears and inhibitions. And don’t worry about what others think of you. Have you thought that perhaps they’re just as petrified as you are?
So go on girl, slay like the rockstar that you are!
