Someone Said Women Will Never Know Their City Like Men. Hits Hard!
Here are some reasons for it

How well do you know the city that you were born and raised in? Well, I am sure the answers by women will differ a lot from that of men. Honestly, it is sad but also a harsh reality that women often come to realise. I came across a Tweet on this and I could not agree more with it. It hits you really hard when you come to terms with the fact that women actually do not know their city that well as compared to men. And there can be numerous reasons for this.

The very first that comes to my mind is the safety issue. Well, I will not blame the parents if they have not allowed their daughters to roam freely around the city at night. In our country, we have never been assured of our safety. With the rising crime rate against women that makes headlines every other day, parents are bound to feel insecure about allowing their daughters to go around their city. And I feel that this makes a huge difference in the upbringing of a boy and a girl.
Girls have always been restricted to staying at home, and apart from the safety issues, we also have a prevalent mindset in our Indian culture which tries to restrict a woman’s freedom on various levels. It is just not about them going out, but the kind of dresses they wear or there is a certain level of behaviour expected from them, which the boys clearly do not have to go through. Even women do not feel safe going out and enjoying their city during the dark hours of the night, except if they are in a group.

We all must have faced all these things on a personal level too. The carefree attitude with which boys can explore their city seems like a dream for many women. There can be exceptions to this but it is comparatively very less. This is not just sad, but also reflects many problems related to women that continue to exist in our Indian society on a ground level, which often goes unnoticed.

If all women want is a nation that allows them the freedom to wander the streets of their own city, are they expecting a lot or it’s just something that we all deserve, irrespective of our gender?
