Dear Trolls, Alia Bhatt’s Pregnancy Is No Grounds To Question Deepika Padukone, Katrina Kaif’s Baby Plans. Mind Your Own Business!

Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor have rocked the internet with their recent pregnancy announcement. She gave the beautiful news to the world through Instagram where she posted a picture from her sonography appointment with Ranbir by her side. The ultrasound monitor next to her bedside was blurred with an adorable heart emoji on it. In addition to this, the actress captioned the post by writing, “Our baby ….. coming soon.” It’s not just you and me, the entire world is talking about the fact that the new couple is starting their family. The internet rushed to congratulate them and celebrate this beautiful announcement. Various celebrities made their way to this post and wished the new couple, absolute happiness with all their heart. And then… then came the trolls with their vicious, and unwarrantedly cruel, memes.

Alas, there was, of course, a flip side to this announcement as well as some people and their patriarchally washed brains and mindsets to speculate and point out annoying observations. We all had obviously seen this coming, hadn’t we? Living in a country that has a very active and sometimes, suspiciously healthy flow of memes, criticism and sarcasm, it was bound to show up, Duh!

Unfortunately, everything took a turn for the wasteland when the memes turned toxic and began to call out other actors and actresses for not having kids despite being married for longer than #RanAlia. Particularly, Ranbir Kapoor’s exes. One particularly ridiculous meme called out Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh for being ‘late to the baby game’ after having been married for way longer than the ‘Kapoors’. A similar meme popped up for Katrina Kaif and Vicky Kaushal as well.

Deepika and Ranveer

To the people who are creating and circulating a meme like this, all I have to say is that they desperately need to wash their minds with detergent. They clearly need to get rid of some of the misogyny and patriarchy that they seem to have accumulated. I’m sure that’s exactly what is causing them to behave like typical Indian mothers-in-law!

My question to everyone who laughed at this meme is, why?

I wonder, when did we turn so morally and emotionally bankrupt as a society? Why does life have to be turned into a race to the ridiculous point where even doing something beautiful and pure like deciding to start a family, has been turned into a competition?

I mean, this is one of the worst and most insensitive memes that I’ve come across recently. The decision to have children is a very personal choice for was a couple and, the fact that Deepika and Ranveer have decided to focus on loving each other all the while, working hard towards their careers is highly respectable. I don’t see the joke and if you do, it’s time to unlearn the toxic patriarchy. The doctor’s recommendation? A true spoonful of modernity and equality on a daily basis!
