Sanjay Dutt’s Old Commercial On “Manliness” Resurfaces, Makes The Internet Compare Him To Andrew Tate. It Sure Is Problematic

The video did not make sense as a "satire"

It is quite surprising how people on the internet dig up so many things from the past and try to fit their relevance with the current happenings or news. And then with the fast-paced digital world, it becomes easier to do so because nothing can get lost once it’s on the internet. On a similar note, a very old video of Sanjay Dutt has been brought to the surface amidst the Andrew Tate controversy. The actor’s ideology is now being compared to Tate, a social media influencer who was recently banned from Tik Tok for his misogynistic content. The old commercial video of  Dutt is all about the perfect definition of “Manliness” and well, it is indeed quite surprising how that actor ends up doing projects that put forth such rigid and regressive thoughts to the forefront.

Sanjay Dutt finds himself in controversies quite often and this time he is again making headlines for all the wrong reasons. On August 22, Tuesday, a Twitter user shared an old video of Sanjay Dutt in which the actor can be seen putting forth an idea that reminds men what real manliness means. The video was shot by the actor for a commercial in 2008. In the video, Sanjay Dutt can be seen bashing men who keep long hair, and like cooking or get their chest and legs waxed. In the video, Dutt further reminds men that they “belong” in gyms and not in beauty parlours. In the demeaning video, the actor also says that men nowadays, want to dress like “behenjis”. He even goes on to say that colours like purple, pink, and mauve are not “manly”, but rather feminine. As per the video, men are losing their talent of “manliness” and therefore Dutt can also be seen saying that “Indian men, we are in danger”.

The Twitter user who shared the video also wrote that Sanjay Dutt was the Andrew Tate before Tate was born. This video has made people question the ideologies of masculinity that Sanjay Dutt tried to promote through this video.

It is rather surprising to see Sanjay Dutt agreeing to do commercials that promote such regressive ideas of masculinity. The video was also insulting to women as he literally used the term “behenji” in a way that is some kind of a demeaning label. The commercial was apparently a “Satire” but it did not really come forth in that way.
