#FreeBritney: Rhea Chakraborty Joins Other Celebs In Supporting Britney Spears Seeking End To Her Conservatorship

The fact that we live in the 21st century and yet as women, we have to fight for the ownership of our own body is just beyond ridiculous. Women all over the world are not only told what they are supposed to do but also told how they should live their lives and how they should treat their bodies. When I hear such things, there is only one question that pops up—why? Why are women told what they should be doing? Why does everybody have a say in what they do to their bodies except themselves? Why is it that we assume that women are not capable of making decisions for themselves? So many questions left unanswered because I honestly believe that society honestly has no answer for them. And if we think this is something that only women in the lower class face then let me present you the case of Britney Spears to tell you otherwise.

Recently, Britney Spears came out in court and spoke about her conservatorship, how she wants her own life back and how she wants to make changes as per her wants and nobody else’s. When she addressed the court, she gave an emotional 20-minute speech where she revealed that there was a contraceptive device, a UID, in her body even though she wanted to have another child.

When in front of the court, she revealed how truly unhappy she was and that she wasn’t able to sleep because of all the pent-up anger inside her that has been driving her insane. In her request to give up the control her father has on her and her finances, she said “I truly believe this conservatorship is abusive. I want changes, I deserve changes.”

The singer also took to Instagram, apologizing to her fan base for pretending to be okay for the past two years, when in reality nothing was okay. She apologized for not showcasing her inner turmoil on the internet and wasn’t seen talking about how traumatized she felt after the court session. In a long post on her Instagram, she wrote, “I believe as people we all want the fairy tale life and by the way, I’ve posted, my life seems to look and be pretty amazing.” Britney Spears wrote, “I’m bringing this to people’s attention because I don’t want people to think my life is perfect because it’s definitely not at all… and if you have read anything about me in the news this week, you obviously really know now it’s not.”

To the already emotional post, she added, “I apologize for pretending like I’ve been ok the past two years. I did it because of my pride and I was embarrassed to share what happened to me but honestly who doesn’t want to capture their Instagram in a fun light,” Ms. Spears wrote, “Believe it or not pretending that I’m OK has actually helped so I decided to post this quote today because by golly if you’re going through hell, I feel like Instagram has helped me have a cool outlet to share my presence, existence and to simply feel like I matter despite what I was going through and hey, it worked. So I’ve decided to start reading more fairy tales.”

Her post has received a lot of support from celebs all over the world. Celebs like Mariah Carey, Justin Timberlake, Rhea Chakraborty, and many more have spoken about the #FreeBritney campaign that has taken social media by storm now, even though theories from Britney Spears supporters about her being unhappy have been going around for years now.

When in 2008, Britney Spears had a public breakdown while in the middle of her divorce with Kevin Federline, she’d been under conservatorship for 13 years. This meant that her father Jamie Spears had full control over her estate as well as other areas of her life. But going by her speech, things were getting way out of control and Spears couldn’t handle it anymore. That is when she took charge and appeared before the court in Los Angeles, where she demanded her independence from this ‘abusive’ conservatorship.

Rhea Chakraborty, who has had her own experience with the public commenting on their own theories on her life, came out in support of Britney. Rhea took to Instagram to post a story with the text #FreeBritney.

Even celebs like Missy Elliot, Halsey, Rina Sawayama, and many more came out in support and penned their support for Britney Spears on Instagram.

It is truly heartbreaking to see that the life of a person can be controlled to such a great extent. Where we believe our parents to take care of us, sometimes it turns out that they are the ones who hurt and misguide us the most. A woman is under no pressure to follow the rules and norms dictated by the men in society. Whether that woman is a wife, mother, sister, daughter, girlfriend, or anything else, it most definitely doesn’t give anyone the right to treat her the way they please.

Having a mental breakdown doesn’t mean she is incapable of making decisions for herself. What it means is that she is a human being that has had her fair share of trials and she needs to rest before she bounces back much stronger than before.
