Actress Pranitha Subhash recently shared a bunch of pictures featuring herself and her husband, businessman Nitin Raju on her social media account. In the pictures, she is performing Bheemana Amavasya puja while sitting on the floor next to her husband, who is sitting on a chair with his feet in a thaali which is filled with water and flowers. For the unversed, married women perform this ritual during Ashada for the long life of their husbands and other male members of the family. The pictures went viral on the internet after a man shared it with a problematic caption. NEVER EVER. Better to die single than asking your partner to do this in the name of tradition and culture. And if you value tradition so much then wash her feet too after she finishes washing your feet. https://t.co/mElDQBsE1Z

On the other hand, Pranitha Subhash said that just because she is an actor and the field is known for its glamour, does not mean that she cannot follow a ritual that she has grown up watching and completely believe in. She added that all her cousins, neighbours and friends have performed this ritual and she did the puja last year as well.

We understand that touching your elder’s feet and performing rituals doesn’t make anyone inferior but women are always expected to worship their husbands and perform certain rituals in order to be ideal wives and it is problematic.
