This Pride Month, A New Glossary Is Teaching Us All We Need To Know About LGBTQIA+ And Gender Spectrum

As heterosexual people, we don’t really know much about the LGBTQ+ community and all that it includes. There’s a reason why it’s not the LGBTQ community but the LGBTQ+ community. The queer community is more than just lesbian, gay, or bisexual. Sadly, sitting in our privileged heterosexual place, we often fail to understand or have the curiosity to learn more about the community and who it comprises. And I can bet on this, most of you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between intersex and transgender. TBH, for the longest time, even I could not differentiate between them but then I took the initiative to understand and learn and be an ally to the LGBTQ+ community. Having said that, let me make this clear, it’s time we take the initiative instead of expecting people from the community to help us understand the terminologies and what’s what.

Now, something of this sort requires a lot of research and reading up about and with the plethora of information available on the internet, it can often confuse us and leave us with a lot more questions. This is why we need things to be simplified for us but the thing is that we cannot exert our heterosexual privilege and expect the LGBTQ+ community to take the initiative to explain things to us. And with the large number of queer terminologies that are used by the people, not knowing things in 2022 is not okay. Amid the Pride month, Tinder in collaboration with Gaysi has launched a live glossary LetsTalkGender.in, in order to make all of our lives easier.
