Koffee With Karan has been a staple source of fun and gossip for the country for about 18 years now. This show has been a guilty pleasure for all of us as it brings us the dose of gossip that we all love and also makes us feel closer to our favourite celebrities. Alas, this much-loved format of the show seems to be slowly changing as the guests that are popping over to the Koffee With Karan couch are now doing so strategically. The appearances are so blatantly promotional, and pure publicity for a fresh jodi soon-to-be-seen on screen in an upcoming movie.

Is This Promotional Wave Really Happening?

Yes, unfortunately, it is really happening. In case you haven’t noticed, all the pairs that we’re seeing on-screen, this season of Koffee With Karan have been rather promotional in nature. Celebrities are appearing primarily to promote their movies and their names on Ormax lists and, this is obvious and noticeable.

I mean, Ananya Panday and Vijay Deverakonda showed up to promote their upcoming movie, Liger, and we could see that. Similarly, Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan are coming in the next episode, and while we know there will be a delicious conversation, it is still a promotion for Laal Singh Chaddha. Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar and Samantha Prabhu appeared, to talk about landing on Ormax Media’s lists of popularity.

But, why do you think this change carrying a wave of promotional appearances has taken place? Is it because of the ever-changing times, the dynamic nature of the show or, is this happening because of us, the audience?

Are We, The Audience, Responsible For This Wave Of Promotional Appearances on Koffee With Karan?

There is a very good chance that this show is changing because of the comments and reactions that the audience has presented in the past. I mean, every time people come over to the Koffee With Karan couch, we the audience, have found a way to troll them. We pick offence over certain statements they make, make memes about them, or spread useless ‘conjecture’ by scrutinizing the stuff that they have stated. And yes, fair, it is an inseparable facet of their profession to be publicly scrutinised, but then, wouldn’t celebs also want to get something out of it? If we are putting ourselves up for a roast as we spill some hot tea about our lives, wouldn’t you want some profit to come out of it?

So yes, celebs might’ve found the perfect bargain to make the whole experience worth it, i.e. the free promotion. Furthermore, we have given so much love to shows like The Kapil Sharma Show which started off as comedy entertainers but went on to become compulsory promotion vehicles for movies and shows. This basically goes to show that this promotional content is the type that is bound to rise to popularity. Why should Koffee With Karan not follow in its footsteps?

Sigh. We can mourn the loss of good old talk shows all we want, but the fact is, everything these days is promotion! And that’s the tea! Or Koffee!
