Twitter Enraged With News Portal That Lists B-Town Actresses Who Got Pregnant Before Marriage. How Is This Even Newsworthy?

Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor embraced parenthood with the birth of their newborn daughter on November 6, 2022. This good news led to a flurry of congratulatory messages and lots of love being showered on this new family of three. But amid this, there were many people who suddenly turned detectives and began deducing how did Alia deliver a baby within seven months of her remarriage with Ranbir. Even Kamaal R Khan, who is notoriously known for his comments on actresses, took to his social media to taunt the new parents for welcoming a baby in 7 months. If this wasn’t enough, a leading news website has now made a full-fledged video on the actresses who had ‘conceived’ before getting married and then delivered a baby within a short time span.

The leading news website, which is none other than India Today, has irked Internet users by making a video listing the actresses who conceived babies before getting married. Starting with Alia Bhatt, they went ahead to mention that she isn’t the first one to have gotten pregnant before marriage. And then, it listed Neena Gupta, Neha Dhupia, Kamal Haasan’s first wife, Sarika, and Natasha Stankovic.

And to make matters worse, at the end of the video, the news portal went on to mention that these actresses ‘broke the stereotypes of motherhood’. Umm, how are these breaking stereotypes? This video was so unnecessary and reeks of regressiveness, too. Why is there a need to specifically point out the pregnancy term in which these actresses gave birth to a baby?

And rightly, this video did not sit well with internet users. One of them wrote, “It’s a shame to watch a big news outlet to cover new like this. You know what are the judgement passed over this situation. Why to poke your nose into it? No sugar coating can cover up what you are trying here. Shame on you,” while another wrote, “It’s a shame that @IndiaToday has come up with this list. It’s time we grow up, we let people be. I see patients who are in a committed relationship with an unwanted pregnancy and do offer them continuation as a choice. Let us respect their love and commitment!”

Why is it so hard, being a news portal, to understand this was not worthy of mentioning at all? It is the actresses’ choices that they made and how difficult is it to just leave it at that? Drawing attention to a woman’s pregnancy tenure, in Indian society, is raising eyebrows at her character. And it’s not cool to do so! also, it is high time to get over this already.
