So, fellas, my guilty pleasure of a show, Indian Matchmaking, is back with a new season, and I could not be more excited! Indian Matchmaking not only highlights the Indian diaspora still believes in the concept of matchmaking but it also shows how interestingly similar the prospective candidate’s preferences are to that of the Indians. One of the prospective candidates on Indian Matchmaking season 3, Vikash Mishra, who is a doctor by profession, was seeking a Brahmin girl who speaks fluent Hindi but also is born in America. It is crazy that a man as educated as him would still believe have such regressive criteria to find a life partner.
Vikash Mishra, an ER doctor, had a list of some really backward criteria when it came to finding a life partner. He wants a girl who is born in the US but speaks Hindi as fluently as he does. He also lists a couple of other personality traits which were still understandable but when he said he wanted a Brahmin girl, I felt like punching him through the screen. Vikash said he wants “someone from the community.”
Sima Taparia being the sassy and savage lady that is immediately told on camera that she was shocked, too, when he put forward this criterion. She also said that for someone who is not a practising Brahmin, looking for a Brahmin girl is asking for a little too much. Sima Taparia also asked him not to be ‘too picky’.
If this happened in India it would have been understandable, which happens very frequently because we are a patriarchal society that wants a prim and proper girl for a guy who does not deserve her in a million years. But being a doctor which proves he is educated and wanting a Brahmin girl is just…stupid. This is exactly why men like Vikash Mishra remain single.

Shockingly enough, he also admitted that he drinks alcohol and even is a non-vegetarian proving he is not a Brahmin himself. So, why does he want a Brahmin girl? Oh, I guess he would want the girl only to say the mantras and get them married so they could have on the pandit’s dakshina!
