Hautesteppers Season 3: Rana Ayyub On Why Female Journalists Are Confined To Lifestyle, Fashion And Entertainment Sections

TBH, I feel journalism has gone to drain over the last few years but there’s one journalist that has won us all over with her ethical journalism and hard work. Author, columnist and journalist, Rana Ayyub has made headlines over the last few years for her opinions and investigative stories. The journalist who writes an opinion column for The Washington Post has also gotten in trouble with the law due to her opinionated social media posts and criticism of the Modi government.

In a recent conversation with Team Hauterrfly, Rana Ayyub opened up about her childhood, upbringing and relationship with her religion and Allah. The journalist, who has faced several death threats due to her choice to speak up about important issues, also talked about her career graph and struggling with depression as well as her ‘sugar high’ sessions.

Rana Ayyub also spoke about her initial days as a journalist in the media industry and questioned why female journalists are confined to genres like lifestyle, fashion, beauty and entertainment. She also recounted an incident when another female journalist told her to not focus much on the political domain as it’s dominated by men as they can have a drink or two with politicians to get their stories and inputs. Rana Ayyub also spoke about being a Muslim and how her religion is used against her to shame and degrade her work.
