5 Reasons Why The OG ‘Harry Potter’ Films Suffice, And We Don’t Need A Reboot Series
Make it stop, please!

Okay, it is Tuesday and which means the rest of the week is still waiting to happen, and I have woken up to the news of the Harry Potter series being made. Well, Warner Bros is looking to close the deal, and talks of a reboot are happening. JK Rowling is not going to be the showrunner this time but she will be there to provide “creative” inputs. Now, as you would expect, this has upset fans, and we agree with each one of them. So, here are five top reasons why making the Harry Potter reboot series is a bad idea.

1. Original movies are nostalgic
Making the Harry Potter reboot series is like watching your favourite street food joint getting trashed to be made into a fine dining restaurant. We don’t want the ‘fancy menu’ and new seating area. We have memories of the old movies which have been a huge part of our personalities while growing up. As die-hard Harry Potter fans, we are sensitive to each and every scene and dialogue from the films which we know for sure the series will not be able to match.

2. Constant comparison between old and new cast
You know how the sons and daughters of rich parents are getting constantly reminded how they have big shoes to fill? This is exactly going to be that but on a global scale. The characters that Daniel Radcliff, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, Tom Felton and others gave us will always remain elite and top-tier.

3. Stretching films into series is too much
The books already elaborate the entire plot of Harry Potter in great detail and the movies include most of it. So, having it all remade into a series makes no sense! This is unnecessarily lengthening the franchise just for the sake of it.

4. JK Rowling does not need to be given clout amid transphobic comments
JK Rowling’s opinion on trans women did sit well with her fans, and she has been receiving backlash ever since. People online have said that they need a series to let a transphobic person earn billions!
‘People who menstruate.’ I’m sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?

5. Warner Bros could have made Harry Potter prequels
Instead of giving the fans a story that is already known to all and which remains iconic for generations to come, Warner Bros could have just worked on giving a prequel about Hogwarts and how it come into being. Four different movies based on the four founders of the houses could have just made more sense!
What we needed were prequels explaining the history of Hogwarts and its houses. And you’re rebooting the whole thing?

Not wanting to pass judgement before the series is out but the series will not do justice to the original. History has been proof of this that no reboots or reprises or remakes have ever lived up to the original. Also, there are countless Harry Potter franchises like video games, spin-offs, plays, merchandise and more available for people who want to remain attached to the story. So, why waste the time, effort and money into making the reboot of something which is already grand?
