5 Horror Books That Will Give You The Creeps And Chills This Halloween!

5 Horror Books That Will Give You The Creeps And Chills This Halloween!

October 31 is here which means, Halloween is here! People had already begun getting ready for this holiday right when this month began. From putting together the scary costume to attending a Halloween party to looking up spooky makeup online, people have put a lot of thought into celebrating this holiday. Despite this holiday not holding much significance for us in India, I get into the spooky spirit by reading horror books. And before you start tch-tching, let me tell you that reading horror is way scarier than watching it! Reading it makes you imagine each little thing the author describes and that leaves a lasting impression on the mind. Hence, making it scarier than watching it! So, in the spirit of Halloween, if you want to get spooked, too, here are some amazing horror book recommendations for the holiday!

The Exorcist – William Peter Blatty

If there is one book that matches the horror of the movie, it is The Exorcist. The movie was a rage when it was released in 1973. What shocked the audience more was the portrayal of a young girl getting possessed by a demonic entity and how she starts behaving rowdily. The description of this was all the gorier and more disturbing in the book.

Ghosts In Our Backyard – Alisha ‘Priti’ Kirpalani

This book is based on the real paranormal activities experienced by the Ramsay brothers. Yes, the pioneers of horror content in India! The author, Alisha ‘Priti’ Kirpalani, the granddaughter of FU Ramsay, has penned the real incidents when the Ramsay family had encounters with ghosts while on their shoots. The real incidents in the spooked me way too much. I read the book in one go and I did not sleep that night!

The Shining – Stephen King

My first horror read by King and my mind was blown! Stephen King is the master of describing the most minute details with such dexterity that you just cannot miss them. And how all of it just adds up to the big picture in the end! A true-blue masterpiece, this one!

Coraline – Neil Gaiman

The cover of Coraline makes you feel like it is a story for children. But its plot is never to be heard by children! Neil Gaiman, the author who is known for all his horror books, knows exactly how to creep his readers out. Even though I am not a fan of his writing, I appreciate his art of storytelling.

Mexican Gothic – Silvia Moreno-Garcia

Mexican Gothic is one of my favourite horror books ever! Right from the first page, the book gave the proper gothic feel and the author keeps it up throughout the book. The climax of the book is amazing, plus, I could imagine the entire plot happening like a movie in my mind! I could not up the book down at all. A must-read!
