‘Zwigato’ First Look: Kapil Sharma Plays A Misogynist Husband To Shahana Goswami In Nandita Das Film

One of the most talented and versatile comedians has to be hands down, Kapil Sharma. But apart from making people laugh with his witty sense of humour, he also possesses quite a few talents that he has time and again put on display. Yep, I’m talking about his acting abilities. After having his own stand-up special for the first time, he is ready to take yet another bold step but this time he puts comedy in the backseat. What am I talking about? Well, Kapil Sharma is all geared up to play the lead role of an orthodox husband in Nandita Das’ Zwigato. The movie starring the comedian also has Shahana Goswami as the lead who plays the role of the wife. And even though the trailer of Zwigato has not been released, the first look is out!

On August 17, the first look of Zwigato starring Kapil Sharma and Shahana Goswami dropped and to say I am intrigued would be an understatement. The movie directed by Nandita Das had its first look shared by the Toronto International Film Festival’s (TIFF) official Twitter account – and this is because this is where the movie will have its world premiere.

From the looks of it, it seems as though in Zwigato, Kapil Sharma puts his comic acting in the backseat and takes on the role of a new food delivery rider who is struggling to provide even the basic necessities. He seems to be playing the stereotypical man who is so patriarchal and deep in social norms that he is unable to tolerate that his wife (played by Shahana Goswami) might be earning more than he does.

Shahana Goswami plays the character of the wife in Zwigato who in order to financially help her husband (played by Kapil Sharma) takes on a job. The Nandita Das directorial that is set in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, shows the journey of the wife from a homemaker to an earning member of the family.

Nandita Das’ Zwigato attempts to portray what an ‘ordinary’ family looks like – especially after the Covid-19 pandemic. It shows the constant and unforgiving struggle of ordinary people and those unforgettable moments of joy that they share amidst all their problems. Just like life, this movie is bittersweet.

Zwigato that is presented by Applause Entertainment and Nandita Das Initiatives is all set to have a world premiere at the 47th Toronto International Film Festival
