Vaani Kapoor Wants Her Work To Be Diverse. Says Her Character In ‘Shamshera’ Is “Enchanting”

According to Bollywood star Vaani Kapoor, who wants to have a varied repertoire, one may be a competent actor and play beautiful roles. Shuddh Desi Romance, the actor’s debut film, launched her career in 2013. Befikre and the blockbuster War followed. For her portrayal of a transgender lady in Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, she has received praise.

Vaani Kapoor said that she wants her work to be diverse and she believes that her role as an actor has helped and enabled her to accomplish a lot. Vaani’s portrayals in movies like Befikre and War are sometimes seen as glamorous, but for her, acting involves other challenges. She said that glamorous roles call for a specific level of commitment and effort and it isn’t as though it requires less efforts just because it’s flashy. In essence, she continued, She added that it’s not like the de-glamorized portions have acting and performance and the rest are just coming in, dancing, and leaving.

According to PTI, Vaani said she tried to explore multidimensional characters in Shamshera. The movie, which stars Ranbir Kapoor, is based in the imaginary city of Kaza in the 1800s and tells the tale of a warrior and a brutal, authoritarian police officer named Shuddh Singh, who is played by Sanjay Dutt. Sona, a dancer and Ranbir’s love interest, is played by Vaani.

The 33-year-old actor claimed that the character’s flamboyance and emotional frailties made her find the character rather “enchanting.” Vaani  said that Sona is incredibly flashy and alluring, very dissimilar to herself. She added that Sona has a complex personality that one can only fully understand after the movie is released. Vaani  added that Sona has substance and both emotional vulnerability and strength at the core of who she is. Shamshera is her first project with actors Ranbir Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt along with director Karan Malhotra. Vaani claimed that in addition to falling in love with the movie’s script, she also wanted to work with the trio. She said that Malhotra was courteous enough to take her into account and she felt honoured that he had considered her for the part. Vaani said that as an actor she consider the plot, the character, and what she can bring to the table. She added that Sona and the way she was written by Karan was too fascinating.

Vaani feels that people are eager for larger-than-life movies after seeing a lot of OTT content during the pandemic-induced lockdown, so she is optimistic about the movie’s chances when it opens in theatres on Friday. She said that because of COVID, everyone was in a state of natural halt, and OTT platforms were bustling with activity which has caused people to be very picky about theatrical releases. Vaani said that they have come at a time when audiences are receptive to films like theirs. She said that not saying this because of the film’s grandeur and stunning aesthetics but rather because Shamshera has a compelling plot and a lot to give.
