13 Upcoming Movies Based On Books That We Can’t Wait To Watch

I have always been a person who loves reading books. And sometimes there are books with such amazing characters and plotlines that I want those to be turned into movies. More often than not, some of these books do get turned into movies. In fact, there is a list of upcoming movies that are based/adapted from books that I’m looking forward to watching. Wondering which ones? For that, you’ll have to carry on reading.

List of upcoming movies that are based/adapted from books:

1. Mrs Harris Goes To Paris

Based on the novel Mrs. ‘Arris Goes to Paris by Paul Gallico, the story revolves around a Londoner named Mrs. Harris, a house cleaner, who sees the most stunning dress ever and makes it a mission to save up and go to the House of Dior in Paris. It is there where her life takes a whole different route. Starring Lucas Bravo, Jason Isaacs, Lambert Wilson, and Leslie Manville, the movie is set to release on May 6. 

2. Where The Crawdads Sing

Delia Owens is the writer of the book the movie is based on. It follows the story of a young girl who is forced to survive on her own and isn’t accepted by her time even though she tries really hard to fit in. The plotline constantly jumps between Kya growing up in the past while also unfolding information about Chase Andrews’ murder in the present where locals suspect her involvement. Daisy Edgar-Jones, Taylor John Smith, and Harris Dickson play leads in the movie that is set to release on July 22.

3. White Bird: A Wonder Story

The movie is based on R. J. Palacio’s novel of the same name. The story revolves around a girl in Nazi-occupied France who goes into hiding with the help of a schoolmate and a young man that does everything in his power to ensure she gets a chance to survive. The movie starring Bryce Gheisar, Helen Mirren, and Orlando Schwerdt, is set to release on October 14.

4. Salem’s Lot

Based on Stephen King’s novel by the same name, the movie revolves around a writer named Ben Mears who returns to Jerusalem’s lot looking to get inspired. However, instead of finding inspiration, he finds vampires. The movie features Spencer Treat Clark, William Sadler, and Alfre Woodard. It is set to release on September 9. 

5. The Nightingale

Based on Kristin Hannah’s book, the movie revolves around the lives of two sisters living in France that are separated at the onset of World War II. The movie stars Dakota Fanning and Elle Fanning as leads and will release this year. 

6. The Stars At Noon

The romantic thriller movie is based on the novel of the same name by Denis Johnson. The movie tells a story of a mysterious English businessman and an American journalist who get romantically involved and are now to team up to escape Nicaragua during the Nicaraguan Revolution. The movie starring Margaret Qualley, Joe Alwyn, and Danny Ramirez is set to release in May 2022.

7. Luckiest Girl Alive

Based on a book of the same title written by Jessica Knoll, the movie talks about Ani FaNelli who has reinvented herself after burying her haunted past. She starts a new life as a successful journalist with a dashing fiancé but things don’t go as smooth as she’d like especially after her past resurfaces and she’s forced to confront it. The movie stars Mila Kunis, Justin Lube, Finn Wittrock, and Connie Britton as leads. It will release on Netflix in 2022.

8. Killers Of The Flower Moon

The movie is based on the best-selling non-fiction book, Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI written by David Grann. It is about the members of the Osage tribe in Northeastern Oklahoma that are murdered in mysterious ways in the 1920s sparking a major FBI investigation. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Jesse Plemons, and Lily Gladstone, the movie is set to release in the year 2022.

9. Pinocchio

It is an upcoming American live-action computer-animated musical fantasy movie that is based on Carlo Collodi’s The Adventures of Pinocchio. The movie stars Tom Hanks, Cynthia Erivo, and Luke Evans, and is set to release in September 2022.

10. The Archies

The movie directed by Zoya Akhtar is going to be a live-action musical adaptation of Dan Parent’s graphic novel, Archie Comics, that will be set in the 1960s. Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor, and Agastya Nanda will be making their debuts with this feature film that is set to release on Netflix in 2023.

11. Bullet Train 

The movie is based on a book by the same name written by Kotaro Isaka. The story is about a train that has five assassins onboard including Kimura who has tracked down another assassin named Satoshi, who is also on board, in order to exact his revenge. This train ride from Tokyo to Morioka is dangerous, thrilling, and filled with action. The movie stars Sandra Bullock, Brad Pitt, and Zazie Beetz as leads and is set to release on July 15.

12. Matilda

Based on Roald Dahl’s popular book of the same name, this movie is set to revolve around a young girl with great powers, a mean headmaster, and an insightful instructor. The Netflix original movie stars Stephen Graham, Emma Thompson, and Andrea Riseborough as leads and will stream on the OTT platform from December 2022.

13. The Wonder

Following the plotline of Emma Donoghue’s book by the same name, the movie tells a story of an 11-year-old girl named Anna O’Donnell that somehow manages to survive without food for a month, and a woman named Lib Wright who has been hired to watch over the girl. Starring Florence Pugh, Tom Burke, and Niamh Algar, the movie is set to release on Netflix in 2022.
