Indian TV Soaps love subdued women. The one thing I hate the most about these shows is that the perfect Indian bahu is all about getting dolled up and toiling hard all day to keep her in-laws happy even if they constantly put her down and insult her. Don’t they just love such naive and gullible women? One such character is Saath Nibhana Saathiya fame Gopi Bahu, played by Gia Manek. Why? Because she’s a simple, innocent woman who is a doormat for her in-laws. This submissive bahu is always at their beck and call. Remember the television bahu who washed her husband’s laptop? Yeah, that’s her. She became popular for her actions and for being the one who would sacrifice everything and tolerated injustice and whatnot. But it seems like Gopi bahu has changed a lot in the spinoff of the show titled Tera Mera Saath Rahe.
For the first time in the history of Indian television soaps and Gopi bahu’s existence, the character actually put her foot down and stood up for herself. Yes, you read that right. Nope, I’m not kidding at all! A small clip from the latest episode of Tera Mera Saath Rahe is going viral on social media currently. In the viral video, Gia Manek aka Gopi bahu slams her in-laws for taking undue advantage of her and asks them to pay her back for her love and effort. You go, girls. We’re so proud that she finally stood up for her rights!

Come to think of it, this isn’t very surprising. Homemakers sacrifice their lives, careers, dreams, ambitions and everything possible to serve their families and we surely don’t give them enough credit for their hard work. And Indian television serials has made it worse by portraying Indian bahus as doormats who let people walk all over them in the name of love and relationships. Guess what?
