Thank You, Taapsee Pannu, For Being Your Own Hero And Never The Damsel In Distress In Your Films

Today is the day when the iconic Taapsee Pannu graced the world with her presence. The actress has us all hooked with her mind-blowing performances in movies that turn out to be blockbusters. How do I know that? Well, cause I was going through the list of movies that she has starred in. And while I was doing that, a very evident pattern presented itself. What is that? It is a fact that the Shabaash Mithu actress has not only just grown as a performer but also she has made some very conscious choices when it comes to picking the kind of roles. Taapsee Pannu, who made her debut back in 2010 with a Telugu movie, in the start has played the stereotypical role of a supporting heroine. But that seems to have changed now.

Taapsee Pannu who is known for her bold nature has often opened up about how unhappy she is with the kind of roles that are offered to actresses. She has time and again spoken about how actresses are given a backset while the focus is always on the hero. This also is one of the reasons why she has intentionally chosen to stray away from such kinds of roles.

If you look at the 35-year-old actress’s career, you’d see that she has hardly played the role of a typical side actor heroin or a damsel in distress. If anything, her movies majorly have her as the main lead of the story or her characters have individuality and an element of social autonomy.

And this choice of choosing roles that have their individuality can be visibility seen after she did Pink in 2016. Since then, she has chosen films where she is the lead in every way. If there is reducing needed, then she is the one who is doing that. If the movie is about making choices, then it is her who makes the biggest decision. Taapsee Pannu has made a conscious choice to not pick movies where she has to play second fiddle to anyone – especially a hero. Just look at some of her movies post-2016 – Thappad, Rashmi Rocket, Haseen Dillruba, Looop Lapeta, etc. and her most recent one – Dobaaraa.

Honestly, this decision of Taapsee Pannu is quite a refreshing thing to see in Bollywood because usually, we see male actors making such choices while most actresses stick to the stereotypical roles.
