This Standup Comedian’s Set About Daughters Smashes The Patriarchy And It’s Obsession With Sons Via Laughs

Do you know what’s the dearest thing to our society? Well other than gossiping about other people’s lives or controlling women’s bodies for no apparent reason, the actual answer is sons. The obsession with a male child is not a new thing and it’s deeply embedded in the minds of people. Remember Varun Dhawan’s opening monologue from the film Badrinath Ki Dulhania where he says sons are an asset and daughters are a liability? It perfectly explains the mindset of Indian families and it is spreading like a deadly disease in the so-called modern generation as well. But you know what they say, “Laughter is the best medicine.” So comedian Gaurav Gupta appeared like a doctor in a shining coat to rescue the sexist peeps who think a son is better than a daughter (ugh, so disgusting).

Recently, Gaurav Gupta posted a video titled ‘Daughter’ on his Youtube channel and it went viral. In the video, the standup comedian talks about the advantages of having a girl and it is literally smashing the patriarchy and its obsession with sons with a humourous twist on the whole situation. He starts by talking about how everybody started consoling him when he had a daughter even though he was very happy about it. He then went on to illustrate the advantages of having a girl child and explained that while boys do love their parents, they live in their own world and are rarely obedient, fuss-free kids to raise. On the other hand, daughters are pretty much the best thing to happen to their parents! Gaurav quite brilliantly presents a big social issue wrapped in wit and humour to the audience, and it is not all faf; these are facts! We are impressed.

Take a look at the video here:

The video has garnered over 2,234,871 views and people are praising Gaurav Gupta in the comments. Despite several campaigns and initiatives over the years, the fondness for sons remains quite strong among Indian parents. Now, we think it’s time to make them understand the concept of equality with laughter.

We are loving how he casually takes a dig at the people with the ‘Ladka dedo, bhagwan!’ mentality. After seeing his set, Gaurav Gupta has become our favourite ‘funny feminist’ in town.
