Sonakshi Sinha And Huma Qureshi’s Upcoming Film ‘Double XL’ Is All About Tackling Fat-Shaming

Sonakshi Sinha and Huma Qureshi are amongst the top actresses in Bollywood right now. But there’s no doubt that they have both faced body-shaming since their debut. And now, the two are all geared up to give it back to the body-shamers with their upcoming movie. The actresses will share the silver screen in their upcoming film Double XL.

A film announcement video was released on December 14. The video shows Sonakshi Sinha and Huma Qureshi enjoying burgers and drinks while discussing how fat-shaming is so normal in our country. Huma introduces her character as Rajshri Trivedi from Meerut and Sonakshi portrays Saira Khanna from Delhi. In the video, Huma asks Sonakshi that how to reduce the weight the two have gained for the film, Double XL. In response, Sonakshi says just like they did for their debut roles. The duo also went on to discuss how they were criticized for their weight. Sonakshi points out that Huma Qureshi was fat-shamed and termed ‘too heavy to be a leading lady’, the latter points out that Sonakshi was called ‘Motakshi’ in the comments section of her film promos and videos. 

Sonakshi further questions, “But why? Because those who fat-shame us, their sisters, friends, or mummies are also overweight. Don’t they have a right to dream?” To which Huma replies, “They do have a right, partner. That’s why it’s important to tell the story of this film.” The film is a slice-of-life social comedy that questions bodyweight stereotypes that still exists in our society. Sharing the hilarious video on their social media accounts, Sonakshi and Huma, both wrote, “Size Large…Sapne Extra Large! (Weight) Wait Ends, Summer 2022!”

The film also features the Notebook actor Zaheer Iqbal and Mahat Raghavendra, the young sensation of Tamil cinema. The film Double XL is directed by Satramm Ramani and is set to release in the summer of 2022.
