Shilpa Shetty Asks Court To Dismiss Plea Against Her Discharge In Richard Gere Kiss Case
No matter how far you run, your past eventually catches up with you – especially when the past includes a court case. Just take the instance of the Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty. Back in 2007, the actress was at a charity event in New Delhi where even the Hollywood actor Richard Gere was present. During the event, the two shared an on-stage kiss. Now, what would seem a harmless action, a person took offence to it and filed a complaint against the actress with the Alwar police. The complainant said in the FIR that she did not protest while being kissed by the Hollywood star. The incident resulted in an obscenity case being filed against her. And now, Shilpa Shetty has asked the court to reject the plea against her discharge in the Richard Gere kiss case.

Yep, recently, Shilpa Shetty who is acting via her lawyer, Prasant Patil, has approached the court and asked for the dismissal of a plea that challenged the January order of Ballard Pier, Mumbai, magistrate court discharging her from the Richard Gere kiss case.

It was in April that the Alwar, Rajasthan, police approached the sessions court against the magistrate’s order and said in their plea that the court had made a mistake in discharging the actress from the Richard Gere kiss case. They further stated that her act of kissing or allowing herself to be kissed in a public place is an obscene thing to do.

As per reports, the police further said that if the court examines the FIR filed against the actress, then it would find that a prima facie case is filed against her for the incident that took place in New Delhi and involved Richard Gere and her sharing an on-stage kiss.

And as a reply to that, Shilpa Shetty claimed that she was a victim of malicious proceedings and harassment at the hands of the person who filed a complaint against her. She added that she is an artist and has always behaved responsibly in public. She further said that the complainant was approaching the cour only for cheap publicity and nothing more.

In fact, Shilpa Shetty countered the remark that stated that she did not protest while being kissed by Richard Gere, saying that only because she didn’t protest doesn’t mean she is a conspirator or perpetrator of any crime.
