5 Times ‘Riverdale’ Had Us Wondering What Its Writers Were Smoking. Sabrina’s Turning Betty, Veronica Into Witches!

We’ve seen Indian telly going crazy with their plotlines. From Indian bahu’s turning into files and naagins to sleeping in sarees to multiple plastic surgeries and whatnot, you name it and we’ve seen it but the thing is that Indian telly isn’t the only one with wild AF plotlines. Our fave Netflix show, Riverdale is just as bonkers when it comes to plotlines. Ever since it premiered on the CW network in 2017 and then on Netflix, Riverdale has taken us through some truly bonkers plotlines. Based on Archies comics, this dark and thrilling show brings our favourite comic character to life but it has more than just some crazy plot holes. The storyline that evolves in every season seems to be getting crazier by the day and yet it continues to entertain us. And it has us really wondering what’s going on with the writers and makers of this show. On that note, let’s take a walk down memory lane and look at some of the craziest plotlines that had us questioning what the writers of the show were smoking when they wrote it.

1. The Weird Incest

Riverdale and incest just go hand in hand. We all know the borderline creepy bond between Cheryl and her twin brother Jason. We all had moments when we thought there was more to their bond but phew, thank god. Having said that, there’s no way we can forget how Penelope Blossom married her adopted brother. And if that did not give you the creeps, we’re sure the whole Coopers and Jones under the same roof did. With Betty and Jughead sharing a half-brother, their parents dating and all of them living under the same roof looks like Riverdale has a thing for the creepy incest.

2. Gryphons and Gargoyles

I mean what even was this plotline. TBH, it took me forever to even understand WTF on earth was happening in Season 3. The weird game that turned scary and led to the death of a LOT of people and introduced the Gargoyle King. But however, did that game work? It really had us wondering if it was a supernatural twist of fate or just drugs or maybe it was just the writers high on some really good stuff.

3. The Speakeasy Drama

I’m all for women entrepreneurs and starting out young but how on Earth did a teenage girl start and run a speakeasy? We’re quite literally talking about a small town where a mobster’s teenage daughter is running an underground speakeasy bar under a diner with no repercussions. How? And let me add to this, her mobster dad is against it and yet she somehow (being a teenage girl, a high schooler) manages to handle him with ease. The ethical issues, the legalities and all of this drinking establishment are questionable. And just BTW, the adults around town are aware of this Speakeasy and the teenagers regularly visit it and yet not a single person does anything about it….

4. Jughead Faking His Own Death

As if a teenager running her own bar and another one wanting to be a mobster wasn’t enough that they had to show Jughead Jones (who’s in a gang BTW) faking his own death. No no, this kid didn’t just plan it but he executed the plan to fake his own death after his Stone Wall kids tried to kill him and framed Betty, Veronic and Archie for the murder. But it was Jughead, who planned it all to get back at them and in the process, he spent good 36 hours unconscious and on the brink of death only to recover and hit back harder. WTF is even happening in this show?

SO I SAY Jughead crafts that “perfect murder” and then actually plays it out IRL (faking his death), to prove his story was ACTUALLY the best, so he can win that contest.

Tbh Jughead going to these lengths to prove himself/become the next ghostwriter wouldn’t surprise me.

5. Betty Wants Archie’s Baby

After the ending of season 5 where Betty and Archie start dating each other after the former spent nearly 4 seasons of Riverdale, dating Jughead on and off. In season 6, the town of Rivervale, which is an alternate universe of Riverdale, was introduced and in this world, everything seems to be much more twisted. While Riverdale Betty starts dating Archie in season 5 (after breaking our much loved Betty and Jughead aka Bughead ship), the Rivervale Betty wants nothing more than to start a family with Archie. And in all this chaos Betty hatches a plan with Cheryl and the town of Rivervale to sacrifice Archie to the Maple Maiden which in turn allows Betty to have his love child, which she loses due to a curse. Ugh, what a waste? #Barchie makes us wanna barf.

6. Sabrina’s Lesson On How To Resurrect

Sabrina Spellman made her debut smack in the middle of season 6 of Riverdale by being a part of their alternate universe of Rivervale. As if that wasn’t crazy enough, the buzz is that in the next episode of the show, Sabrina will teach Betty, Veronica and Tabitha how to become witches and resurrect Archie and Jughead. Erm, what?

Seriously, this show has left us with so many questions and some really questionable plotlines and incomplete half-baked sub-plots and the plot holes. From the organ harvesting cult to Cheryl holding onto her brother’s corpse to the jingle jangle to Chic dating Charles, we’re just wondering WTF is happening on this show. Even with all the thrill, suspense and mystery, this show has questionable ethics and plots. To call it crazy or bonkers would really be an understatement. I mean we are living in the world of dark Betty, La Lorna, a teenager fighting a bear, Jughead and Veronica kissing and all that jazz that is absolutely mind-boggling. NGL but I could list a minimum of 10 more bizarre plots from Riverdale that are truly absolutely WILD. It’s surprising how this show still continues to entertain us all because TBH, even with all this chaos, it’s still my guilty pleasure. But I have a question – Will Betty, Veronica and Tabitha manage to resurrect Jughead and Archie?
