‘Karm Yuddh’ Trailer Has Us Anticipating Interesting Female Characters. But Why Such Cheesy Dialogues, Yaar?

I have always been a fan of stories revolving around crime dramas. Moreover, I can not get over stories about power struggles and conspiracies which revolve around it. For whatever reason, I love power-hungry characters who will do whatever it takes to get what they want. Something about that type of greed is extremely primal, human. And today when I watched the trailer of Hotstar Specials’ Karm Yuddh I got the feeling that I will witness a lot of such characters and that this upcoming series might just give me some of that. The series features Satish Kaushik, Paoli Dam, Anjana Sukhani, and Chandan Roy and seems like the Indian family crime drama of my dreams.

Karm Yuddh revolves around the power struggle between the two factions of the same family, “The Roys”. The trailer shows the city of Kolkata covered in blood as it witnesses a massacre amidst this feud.  With the city of joy turning into a battleground for the Roys, we can anticipate lots of drama to unfold.

I’ve always been a fan of stories that have ruthless or morally grey female characters, that are written with the same crude edges as male characters often are. Most shows seem to water down a woman’s ability to do wrong and her intelligence. But I am hoping, from what I’ve seen in the trailer, that Karm Yuddh might give us female characters that are just as ambitious and power-hungry as the men. With actresses like Paoli Dam and Anjana Sukhani, I am looking forward to Karm Yuddh having well-written women.

However, I will admit that the dialogues in the trailer sounded a bit too cheesy to me. It felt as though the writers just used every mafia movie they could as blueprints to sounding badass and cool. However, that just seemed to fall flat as it ended up sounding like they were trying too hard. Regardless, I am still interested to see how Karm Yuddh fairs.

Karm Yuddh will be streamed on Disney+ Hotstar from September 30, 2022.
