Britney Spears Is Finally Free! Jamie Spears Suspended From Conservatorship After 13+ Years

For those on social media platforms, there is no way to have missed the #FreeBritney movement, powered by her fans who suspected that despite social media appearances, all was not okay with pop icon Britney Spears. But after Britney Spears went public about her personal life and her relationship with her father Jamie Spears, thereby confirming what fans suspected all along, there was not much left to assume. Since then, the singer has appealed to the court to end the conservatorship that she has been under for over 13 years. This was followed by her father, Jamie Spears, also filing a plea to end the conservatorship. The singer’s fans have been eagerly waiting for the day it would finally happen. And Guess what? The wait is over. Britney is finally free!

It was on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, that a judge finally removed Jamie Spears from Britney Spears’s conservatorship and released him from all the power he had over her life for over 13 years. The hearing came right after Britney Spears and her newly appointed attorney criticized her father for handling her life as per his wishes.

Judge Brenda of Los Angeles County Superior Court granted the permission to immediately remove Jamie Spears from his role as a conservator, the role that he has been playing since the conservatorship began in 2008. This order passed by the Court is a monumental step in the life of Britney Spears. She finally is free to live her life the way she wants to, without having her father and a set of lawyers control her personal affairs, fortune, business deals or even her own body.

The hearing is all set to take place on November 12th, where the judge will decide whether or not to terminate the conservatorship altogether. This hearing is based on a separate petition filed by Jamie Spears which accuses him of trying to extort Britney. It was after this accusation that Jamie filed a petition to end the arrangement.

Britney’s counsel Rosengart spoke to the reporters after he left the courthouse and stated that she would sue Jamie Spears if there was evidence and proof that any of her money had been misused. His statement seemed to suggest that her father would face criminal charges if it was proved.

The public interest in the case was further evoked when the New York Times released a documentary titled Framing Britney Spears. The documentary questioned and challenged the control her father Jamie Spears had over her financial, reproductive, and physical being. In fact, on Friday, a follow-up documentary, Controlling Britney Spears, was released. In the documentary, a former employee of the singer’s security team revealed that she was controlled to such an extent that her phone was monitored and even an audio recorder was placed in her bedroom. Netflix too dropped a documentary, called Britney vs Spears, which focuses on the life of the I’m A Slave 4 U singer around her marriage and subsequent divorce from Keven Federline, up until the recent turn of events.
